First off, this is a PEACH flavored drink….freakin peach man!  How awesome is that….not many folks out there have the balls to try for a peach flavored drink, much less a peach flavored energy drink.  Aside from Clearly Canadian, most of the normal peach drinks I run across have Sucralose, or some other artificial sweetener in them totally screwing up the whole experience.  Rage didn’t bother with any of that crap so I was pretty damn excited to pop open the first can.

So let me start this by saying it’s really hard to make a really good tasting peach ANYTHING.  Aside from the above mentioned Clearly Canadian and Jolly Rancher peach candies and maybe Haribo gummi peaches there is pretty much nothing else peach I can stand….and I LOVE peaches.  That being said, this is not a bad attempt at all.  The best way to describe Rage Asylum (and this is going to be a long shot for some of you because it’s just not easy finding something most of you will be able to relate with) is to take a peach snow cone, and drain out the flavor through the ice….then drink it straight.  If you have ever had a peach snow cone and had that bit of concentrated flavoring at the bottom you will know EXACTLY what you are getting here….if not, it’s damn near impossible for me to put the taste of this stuff into terms you’ll get.  It’s a very artificial taste that is a bit overpowering at first.  There’s a weird dryness to each sip and something a bit harsh about it that your brain kind of adapts out over time.  Asylum definitely gets better with each sip, but initially it may put some people off enough that they don’t try to get to that point.  Drinking it cold is the only way to go as letting it warm up seems to amplify the artificial tasting part…..hell, I went as far as to pour it over ice and drink it which actually thinned out the flavor a bit making it much easier to handle.

The overall power is not bad at all…a bit above average I'd say.  It’s going to act as your standard quick power boost, or early morning wake up, and it would probably do well as a late night pick me up.  You could probably make a pretty kick ass fuzzy navel with this stuff….hell, I could think of several way to use Asylum as a pretty rocking mixer.

In the end it’s hard for me to come right out and say who will or won’t like Asylum.  People who like peach might be in to it because it’s a peach drink….or they might be turned off totally because it’s got a very artificial taste to it.  Those who are not big fans of peach flavored stuff may welcome it as a totally new taste in the energy drink world, or be put off because it does taste so much different than the other stuff out there.  Regardless, I definitely say to give it a shot as you may be pleasantly surprised…at the very least you can add one more interesting energy drink to your resume.
