Yet another energy drink I ran across in a small town.  I picked up Cascabel a couple of weeks back when I stopped at a little gas station way out in North East Texas and I have not been able to find it anywhere else.  Had it been a crappy drink I would not have minded so much, but this one is actually pretty good.  What you have is basically another green apple flavored energy drink…however, this is not the typical flavor you would think it would be when popping open a can.  Cascabel tastes a bit like a green apple gummy candy…more specifically a green apple flavored Sour Patch Kid after you dissolve down the majority of the sour stuff.  There is a nice tart, mildly sour taste to it which means it’s not really a smooth drink but oddly enough that’s not at all anything that detracts from your overall enjoyment.  There is TONS of flavor in this drink and it kind of compels you to keep sipping it…..it just keeps you coming back for more.  There is a slight after taste, but it’s not the type you taste immediately…it kind of popps up after a bit after your last sip and it’s not at all as offensive as some of the other drinks out there (to be honest I don’t find it bad in the least.)  Cascabel is definitely one of those drinks best served cold.  The warmer it gets the less you can taste the good stuff in the drink and the more you taste something slightly bitter…it also makes the drink seem a bit more sharp than it already is.

  The power of the drink is exactly what you would expect from a standard 8oz energy drink now days…..nothing amazing, but definitely stronger than a cup of coffee or a soft drink.  I have found that drinking average to low powered drinks really damn fast gives you the most bang for your buck power wise though you really never get a chance to enjoy the drink itself.  In a case like this I prefer to sip the drink and take whatever it gives me be it a strong punch, or slight nudge awake. 

  Over all Cascabel is definitely one I would pick up again, but really only because I dig the flavor, not because I would need a pick me up…there are far stronger products out there that would work better for that.
