Umph is best described as Alka-Seltzer for the sleepy.  It’s quite simply a fizzy tablet that contains about 100mg of caffeine and can be added to any drink you can think of.  Umph can either caffeinate an uncaffeinated beverage, or turbo charge an already caffeinated one.  The first time I saw an ad for Umph I knew I had to get my hands on a few tablets to give them a test run. I must say I am quite glad I did because this stuff is pretty kick ass.  Basically you just take whatever beverage you want, pop open a packet of Umph, drop it in watch it fizz for about 90 seconds, and then drink away.  For my first run of Umph I decided to try it out with grape juice.  I figured that if it had a funny or unpleasant taste maybe the grape juice would make it go down a bit easier…I was quite happy to find out that I was way off base and had nothing at all to worry about.  It seems that Umph is actually quite flavorless!  About that only thing that happened to my drink was that it went from clear to opaque and was just a bit carbonated…basically, once this is dissolved you’ll never know it’s there…aside from the little pep you’ll get from the caffeine.  As a matter of fact, my next test will be with water to find out exactly what if any flavor there is to the tablet itself once it has dissolved.  Just for the hell of it I bit off a small portion to taste directly…bad move.  The piece started fizzing and sizzling on my tongue like I had a 9 volt strapped to it…not to pleasant…but I suppose I got what I deserved for being the dumb ass and trying it that way to start with.  Over all I really like Umph.  The fact that I can get a nice little caffeine burst without having to drink a sugared up soda, or energy drink is a big plus.  I’m guessing this stuff would taste great with orange juice, Gatorade, or lemonade which would defiantly make for a healthier caffeinated drink than I’m normally used to.  If I had more I could easily see this becoming my standard morning eye opener.

*Tried it with water...you get a slight lemony taste with a little bit of tangyness....You can definitly taste it, but it's not bad at all!

**Kicks ass with a Dr. Pepper.  Caffeine+caffeine=win.  Takes longer to dislove than in the juice and water.....  Does change the flavore of the DP a bit.  Taste more like a flaming Dr. Pepper now....but still tastes good.  Think I'll try the next one in a Dos Eques.
