Right off the bat I knew this was not going to make my list of top drinks. My first sip of this stuff pulled me back…all I could think of was honey and water. Start with 1 part Mountain Dew Amp, add 12 parts water, and then maybe 2 parts honey and you get Extreme Energy Shot. What you have here is a syrupy sweet diluted uncarbonated energy drink (well, it's carbonated, but it seems so low that it's damn near not). Now while it was not at all what I was hoping for I can definitely understand where this could have its place in the energy drink world. First off, it’s noncarbonated (or at least really low on the carbonation)…this is good if you are playing sports. Second, It’s REALLY low carb…especially when compared to other energy drinks…only 60g per can compared to upwards of 300g for many other drinks out there. And finally, it does go down pretty easily. I can see how this would be a great beverage for a hiker, bicyclist, or any other health minded active individual…..flavor wise though, it just wasn’t for me. While the list of ingredients in Extreme Energy Shot sounds great in theory (pear, apple, peach, mango, etc) it kind of ends up with a Monster Khaos result, though not nearly as extreme or unbearable.
Now I’m the type of guy that can forgive taste a bit as long as the effectiveness warrants it, and visa versa...UNFORTUNATLY, that’s not the case here. While 100mg of caffeine is still a damn good dose, putting that into a 16 oz can causes it to be drawn out. Take 75mg of caffeine in an 8oz can and you can pretty much get it to hit you all at once….double the volume and add 50% of the caffeine and the result is less than stellar. Now on a hot day with a cold can in you hands I could easily see downing all 16oz in one quick setting, but I have a tendency to treat energy drinks like any other beverage and take sips here and there. Drinking it like this has about as much an effect as drinking a single Dr Pepper on me…nothing to note really. On the plus side, it’s better for me with less sugar, and less carbonation, on the down side it costs $2.00 per can….and for $2.00 per can I’m going to go with something that I enjoy more, and that will give me the kick in the ass I so desire in the mornings.
