I have gotten several requests in the pasts to do a review of Caballo Negro…problem was I could never find the stuff. Well, I was finally able to get my hands on a can and I have to say, I kind of like it.
Caballo Negro to me tastes like a mix of Red Bull and citrus…orange mostly. There is a little bite to each drink that gives it a nice crispness…not to strong, but definitely strong enough to make you take notice. After a few sips the bite starts to back down as you adapt it out a bit, leaving you with a nice mix of sweet and tart. There is not much of an aftertaste, and what you do get is pretty clean…no medicinal or artificial weird flavor, something more akin to Sprite actually. The orange flavor I mentioned is pretty mild…as a matter of fact I can’t actually be sure it’s really orange, that’s just what my brain is mostly linking it to. Regardless, it works pretty well and makes it a good anytime drink…great in the morning, great on a hot afternoon.
The power felt a bit above average to me…nothing stellar, but it did seem to hit me stronger than usual. It would probably be good enough as a late night party drink and work equally well in the morning to get you wide awake for the drive into work.
Overall, Caballo Negro is what I would consider an above average energy drink. The RB+ lemony/lime/orangeish citrus is quite nice, and the kick is about what you are used to from an 8oz energy drink.
