From monster sized to Mini Me sized…I guess there is just something here for everyone. If you are they type of person that just can’t wait through an entire 16 oz can to get an energy boost, or are so into drinking that you need to shoot EVERYTHING, then this is for you. BooKoo Shots are mini energy drink cans that have X2 power…now initially I was not sure if that means X2 of another can this size, or X2 of a normal 8oz can, but what I can tell you is that it does not double your pleasure when it comes to drinking it. As much as I liked the large can of BooKoo Citrus, the shot just didn’t do anything for me…Damn it, I’ll just go ahead and say it…I despised it….on the plus side you are supposed to shoot it, so for all you pros out there you won’t be tasting it long enough to really worry about the flavor. Of course I had to drink the first damn can of the stuff slowly so I could really break down the flavor….. So basically what you have here is an initial taste similar to the other BooKoo Citrus, but this has a weird metallic thinned out thing going on. There is an odd synthetic feeling to it all that I just couldn’t get around…I’m guessing most of the weirdness comes from the fact that you are supposed to slam the stuff so it:
1) Can’t be as high in carbonation as a normal drink
2) Needs to be lower in volume so you can get the good stuff straight into your system faster therefore a lot of other stuff that might balance the flavor needs to be left out, and the overall formula condensed.
That being said, the flavor to me is just kind of a sidebar….It really doesn’t matter that much because you aren’t supposed to sit there and sip it and live in the moment…you’re supposed to knock it back like a good chug monkey and reap the rapid rewards…just like any good clubgoer would. I mean seriously….how many of you REALLY take a shot of vodka or whiskey at a club and really give a damn about the finer aspects of the malt flavor, or the type of barrel used in ageing…and for those of you saying “I do”…bullshit…you just want to get trashed….just like how with this stuff I just want to get wired.
Now the Berry flavored BooKoo Shot is much better. While not as good as the full sized BooKoo Berry, it’s still pretty close. It’s much more balanced than the citrus and (I’m sure this is just my opinion) seems to be carbonated like any other drink. There is a bit of roughness to Berry that makes it a bit more difficult to slam down quickly, but at the same time you can enjoy it a bit more than Citrus so I guess it all kind of balances out. This one is definitely my favorite of the two, but for shooting down fast you’ll find the citrus is just easier to knock back.
On the plus side, just like any good shot this stuff does the job. Slam the can, and within a couple of minutes you are up and going strong. My eyes were WIDE freakin open, and I was very ready to go. On the downside everything wore off much faster. With a big can all the power is spread out through 16oz…take a drink here and there, and you can make the effects all last for well over an hour. With a tiny can you want all that stuff to hit you hard and all at once which is EXACTLY what you get here…the downside of course is that you burn it all up faster too…hell, there is a good chance some folks will crash pretty hard which is why I’m really not to sure how I feel about this a club drink. Would it be good as a starter…probably so, and if you had a few through the night you’d probably party your ass off….but if you only have the one can I’d advise trying it out before you make it you choice for party NOS, and I’d totally avoid it as a late night study aid.
Overall, BooKoo Shot’s serve their purpose well. While the flavor is not something you will rave about the quick boost of power is damn effective. There’s definitely a time and place for these little guys….
